Was the CEO of Twisted Tea on the Titanic submarine that imploded?
Plenty of TikToks and videos on the Internet claim the CEO of the company that makes hard iced tea, Twisted Tea, was on the submarine that imploded on its way to the Titanic wreckage, but how true is it?
Five people – four passengers and a pilot – were killed when OceanGate’s submersible, The Titan, was destroyed in a catastrophic implosion an hour and 45 minutes into the voyage. After four days of rescue operations, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the death of all five people aboard the Titanic-bound submarine.
Was the CEO of Twisted Tea on the Titanic submarine?
No, the CEO of the company which makes Twisted Tea was not on the submarine that imploded.
The OceanGate submarine, which was meant to tour the Titanic wreckage, was carrying five people – billionaire Hamish Harding, businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, and French pilot Paul-Henry Nargeolet.
The deceased passengers were participating in an eight-day expedition by OceanGate and the submarine’s tour to explore the wreckage of Titanic was a part of it.
Based out of Newfoundland, the passengers traveled 400 nautical miles to the wreck site, which is located about 900 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
However, the vessel lost contact only fifteen minutes before it was supposed to land at the wreckage site, and experts were soon to express their concerns about the tragedy the submarine could have met with.
TikToks about Boston Beer Company adds to dark humor
TikTok is filled with videos showing people imagining the CEO of Twisted Tea on the submarine that imploded.
The trend appears to have been started by true Twisted Tea lovers, who couldn’t imagine the passing of the person who heads the company that makes their favorite beverage.
Whereas the scenario is quite exaggerated and hypothetical, the hard tea lovers are indulging in gallows humor to express their love for the drink.
For the unversed, Twisted Tea is owned by Boston Beer Company, whose current President and CEO is David Burwick.
David was definitely not a part of the voyage to the Titanic wreckage. He has been serving as the CEO and President of Boston Beer Company since 2018 and prior to that, he was on Boston Beer’s Board of Directors, since May 2005, displays the company site.
What happened to OceanGate’s vessel
After OceanGate confirmed the speculations that suggested the vessel carrying passengers to TItanic was destroyed in a catastrophic implosion, educational videos depicting the same started circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms.
The implosion is likely caused by the damage to the vessel’s hull, causing a leak, due to the collapse of pressure when it was descending.
The pressure underwater near the wreckage site is believed to be 400 atmospheres (6000 PSI), causing the submarine to implode inwards, crushing like a soda can and destroying it in an instant, leaving nothing behind.
Experts believe the passengers wouldn’t be aware that “anything was wrong” as the implosion reportedly took only milliseconds to occur.
