More than 8 million tons of plastic waste makes its way into the oceans every year, killing millions of animals including birds, fish and other marine life. Plastic production increased from 2.3 million tons in 1950 to 448 million tons by 2015, and production is expected to double by 2050.

Canada’s plastic fork ban explained

In October of 2020 plans to ban completely single-use plastics were announced. They plan to achieve this by the end 2021.

Environmental and Climate Change Minister Jonathan Wilkinson has announced this in the context of their strategy to reduce the amount of plastic waste by 2030. Wilkinson declared: “When a ban comes into effect, your local stores will be providing you with alternatives to these plastic product.”

The list of items banned are plastic bags, stirring sticks, racks with six packs plastic utensils, a few containers for food, and straws made of plastic.

They then show an article that explains The Great Canadian Fork Fight. It is, however, an fake website.

There was never a fork fight in Canada and TikTok is believed to be an apex of a scam.
